SHARED MEMORIES/MEMORIAS COMPARTIDAS

City Lights Gallery was proud to host “Shared Memories/Memorias Compartidas” a traveling exhibition, consisting of 14 visual artists and writers and featuring two limited-edition artist books, Eleggua and La Sagrada Familia/ The Sacred Family and recent artworks byImna Arroyo and Cuban artist Ramón Vargas Ártiz.
The limited edition artist books in “Shared Memories” are a collection of linoleum cut prints that celebrate the storytelling traditions of Africa. They represent scholarship and artwork devoted to recovering the rich visual language of African (Beninese) and Afro-Caribbean Yoruba mythology and folklore.
The artists books are published by Estampas Ancestrales/Ancenstral Imprint, 2012 and the artwork has been printed at the Taller Experimental de la Grafica de la Habana Cuba and Ama-Bel Press Printmaking Studio, Willimantic, CT.
Opening Reception: Thursday October 25, 2012 6-9 p.m. Artists Talk and Reading, Friday Nov. 9, 2012. 6-8:30 p.m.
