About the show
Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight artists were all welcome to submit works to the jury. The works are supposed to relate somehow to the same-sex attraction which gives artists pretty wide latitude. Some works are adult in nature, some a little more forward than others in subject matter. All the works I can tell you, were curated with thought and care.”
Featured works will include works from private collections and photography, paintings, drawings and sculpture by gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual artists all interpreting the theme "SAMESEX". YOU ARE INVITED TO THE ARTISTS' RECEPTION.

From the executive director:
The intention of this exhibit is to provide a common ground for artists and visitors of diverse backgrounds to come together to view, enjoy, discuss or be exposed to art about being Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender. Sexual orientation was not a prerequisite for this exhibit. All artists were welcome to submit work that interpreted the theme.
The term “SAMESEX” is a politically charged, somewhat sterile or safe term, referring to gay rights, marriage and equality. The art in this exhibit is not sterile. It is flamboyant, funny, beautiful, provocative, surprising and at times tragic This exhibit contains adult subject matter, parental discretion required.
From the blog of Lee Steele:
“We’ve posed the question of what “gay art” is and now we have a reply. City Lights Gallery has pulled together works from several artists in an exhibit called, “SAMESEX.”
Special Thanks to Mark Taafel for H'ors D'ouevres for the artists' reception.
